Debt charity seeks new advisers

Birmingham-based debt advice charity National Debtline is set to start the hunt for call centre advisers and managers, due to expanding following a government grant.

The charity will receive an additional £5.85 million funding over the next two years to recruit and train 45 - 50 debt advisers during 2009.

The additional funds have been given to keep up with the demand for debt advice next year as the recession deepens.

Chief executive of Money Advice Trust Joanna Elson said: “Additional funding will allow us to expand capacity and help 175,000 people compared with around 115,000 this year.”

Chief executive of National Debtline Paul Mullins added: “We have helped over 90,000 National Debtline clients this year including 8,000 struggling with mortgages arrears.

“There have been various large scale redundancies announced in the West Midlands and it is important that people know that there is support and advice available including various job opportunities.”
